It was a typical family vacation; lots of food, early morning and evening fishing, and shopping trips to Burlington. There was laughter and teasing as well as quiet reading time. But there was also reflective time, especially since July 17th fell during our stay.
Every year, especially during this time, I am keenly aware of the world around me; a clarity I tend to miss in my everyday life. I look with an appreciative eye at the beauty that surrounds me and imagine that Dave is experiencing it with me.
As I opened my conscientious, I could deeply appreciate the magnificent sunrises. I noticed the lovely wildflowers reaching for the sky along the banks of the lake—Queen Anne’s lace, purple chicory, white daisies to name a few. I noticed little ducklings carefully following their Mamma around the lake with one straggler trying very hard to keep up with the rest. I noticed turtles sunning themselves on the rocks and quickly escaping into the reeds. I noticed that the seagulls always knew where the elusive fish were hiding; those same fish that tantalized us by jumping just out of our reach.
But most of all, I noticed the lovely Green Mountains in the distance and how the sun and breeze across the lake created the most beautiful diamonds dancing across the water. It was hypnotizing.
So it is here where I found another special place for Dave.
